Neurotoxins, also referred to as neuromodulators, are injectable cosmetic treatments that use botulinum toxin type A, a purified protein, to temporarily relax specific facial muscles. By reducing the repetitive muscle activity responsible for dynamic wrinkles, neurotoxins soften existing lines and help prevent deeper wrinkles from forming. These treatments are widely used for cosmetic purposes, especially for treating facial wrinkles such as frown lines, crow’s feet, glabellar lines, and forehead lines.
At Viata Aesthetics and Wellness we carry two types of neurotoxins or neuromodulators, Botox and Dysport, that relax the muscles that cause wrinkles.
Your neurotoxin treatment begins with a consultation to discuss your concerns and assess how your facial muscles contribute to wrinkles. After cleansing the skin, your provider performs a series of small injections using a fine needle to strategically relax targeted muscles such as the forehead muscles, glabellar complex, or muscles around the eyes.
The injection process is quick (usually under 20 minutes), and most patients experience only minimal discomfort. You may notice tiny bumps at each injection site, which fade within minutes to hours. Because neurotoxins are minimally invasive and do not require cosmetic surgery, you can return to most activities right away.
Botox Cosmetic utilizes a natural, purified protein that is administered at very low doses to reduce the contractions of wrinkles-causing muscles. Most typically these are the muscles on your forehead, between the eyebrows and around the eyes. These muscles get in the habit of staying contracted and are the ones that can cause you to look perpetually worried or angry. Advanced Botox can also be used to soften the appearance of the “marionette” lines, “bunny” lines, “smoker” lines and the platysmas bands that lead to the “turkey” neck. Botox can also be used for excess sweating in the armpits and hands known as hyperhidrosis.
Dysport is the preferred wrinkle relaxer at Viata, producing very similar effects as Botox to smooth wrinkles but on average work faster than Botox. The differences are in the molecular size and thus dosing units. Dysport unit number requirements are higher, though this does not mean the product is less effective or more expensive. At Viata we charge the same price for botox and dysport to avoid any confusion with dosage. Your treatment with Dysport will use an equivalent amount of the neuroprotein. As with Botox, individual requirements will vary with men generally requiring more units for full effect than the units required by women. The spread of the product, time to effectiveness and longevity of treatment may also be different from person to person
